Trinity’s Confirmation Ministry exists to formally train and equip individuals in the essential truths of God’s Word as explained through Luther’s Small Catechism and the doctrines of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Trinity offers two paths toward confirmation, one for young people in grades 5-9 (conventional confirmation), and one for adults beyond ninth grade who have not had the opportunity to be instructed at an earlier age (adult instruction.) While our adult instruction has as its focus the goal of culminating in being confirmed in the Lutheran faith, this instruction is open to anyone who may simply be interested in learning more about the basic teachings of Christianity and the theology of the Lutheran doctrines derived from the Scriptures.
If you are interested in confirmation for adults, which is the required instruction to become a communicant member of Trinity, please see the Adult Confirmation section.
Confirmation Rationale
In Baptism, parents make sacred promises on behalf of their child. It is parent’s calling to…
- faithfully bring their children to the services of God’s house
- properly teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments.
- place in their hands the Holy Scriptures
- and provide for their instruction in the Christian faith.
Our confirmation ministry seeks to engage parents and assist them in the fulfillment these promises. It is a task to which God has called them in the pursuit of Christian education for their children. Further, our confirmation ministry exists to properly train and equip young Christians in the six chief parts of Luther’s Small Catechism, providing them with a proper view of themselves as fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household (Ephesians 2:19).
Instruction in Luther’s Small Catechism is accomplished through a series of six workshops (one the fall and one in the spring) over the course of grades six, seven, eight, and one fall workshop in grade nine. These workshops will take place on a Friday evening and Saturday morning here at Trinity.
Confirmation Instruction
Each of the following components of our confirmation ministry, including completion of service hours, keeping a journal, and learning essential Bible stories of the Old and New Testament is explained in detail.

Adult instruction is conducted in a one-on-one or small group study, depending on the numbers. Sessions typically complete two chapters at a time and are scheduled according to the schedule of the participants. There are a total of 12 chapters of study, so this instruction is usually completed in 6 sessions.
For those participants seeking to be confirmed, upon a satisfactory completion of this instruction, a sit down is scheduled with Pastor Carl, and a date will be scheduled to receive the adult confirmand into communicant membership of Trinity.
God, are you there?
Everyone, at some point, asks this question. It can come at moments of sterile reflection or in times of deep despair. “God, if You are there, why don’t You show Yourself to me?” In this confusing world where authenticity is so elusive, it seems like we cannot connect to God.
We could not connect to God, but the good news is that God connects with us. He has been doing this from the beginning in amazing ways. The most direct way God connected to us is when He became one of us in Jesus Christ. When Jesus was on this earth, He was the very revelation of God as He taught and healed and loved.
Then to restore our connection to God which had been shattered because of sin, on the cross, Jesus willingly paid the penalty for our sins—in His own death! This is the most authentic, startling and determined love the world could have ever imagined.
Now God connects to us by revealing Himself in the Bible. This God-given book has an amazing story. It tells of God’s constant and compassionate work to restore our relationship with Him.
Trinity uses a curriculum called GodConnects to share that story with you. GodConnects is a course that tells this unique, unequaled story. Whether you are a new believer in Jesus Christ as your Savior or you’ve been a Christian for a long time and want to deepen your faith in Him, this GodConnects course you will help you explore what the Bible says about this remarkably loving God, and how this love gives direction and meaning to your life today and forever.
