God spoke through Jeremiah to His people, “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare,” (Jeremiah 29:7). As God’s people, we are exiles, awaiting the day when we will finally be at home with our God. As we long for that day, we are called to pray for the nation in which we live and to seek its welfare.
For this reason, we will be gathering for a special service of prayer in anticipation of the election. Join us at 6:30pm on Wednesday, October 23, for a simple service that will guide us through a time of intercession for our nation and its leaders. This service can serve as a springboard for your personal prayers as well, so that, both as a congregation and as individuals we are living out the words of the apostle: “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way,” (1 Timothy 2:1–2).
