Studying the Word Together
Cross Explorations is a Bible study that challenges children and adults to dig deep into the stories of the Bible. Each week, the pastors teach a Cross Explorations Bible study for adults that mirrors the same lesson the kids will experience in Sunday School.
The children’s materials provide discussion points so parents can keep the conversation going around the dinner table and throughout the week. This year’s focus will be on stories from the New Testament.

Amos

Sunday 9:30am
Art/Science Room (Elevator to the basement, on your left)
From the high pastures he lifts his eyes to see across the Salt Sea and the Jordan, where the shadows stalk and devour Edom, Moab, and Ammon. Turning toward the sunset, he sees the distant peak of Mount Carmel, the coasts of Philistia, and the way to Egypt engulfed with reddish light. He calls together the sheep and leads them to safety before the day turns to darkness, when predators roam.
The Lord called the shepherd Amos to deliver a surprising and ominous message for Judah and Israel. In his prophecies, Amos pictured the Lord angry, crouching, and focused like a lion stalking the sinful, carefree nations. The kingdoms were prosperous when Amos preached, but his prophecies of destruction were rapidly fulfilled by the invading Assyrians, who besieged Samaria within a few decades. Expect lively discussion that compares portrayals from the Chosen to the Biblical accounts, and that leaves you with a deeper appreciation for who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
Grace Based Parenting
Saleska’s and Weber’s
Sunday 5:30pm
Saleska and Weber Homes
Modern parents are stressed out and tired. They’ve tried countless parenting books, many of which teach fear-based parenting that focus on rigid rules and boundaries. Dr. Tim Kimmell, founder of Family Matters ministries, offers a timeless look at parenting. Dr. Kimmel recommends a parenting style that emphasizes the importance of communicating the unconditional love that Christ offers and affirms this timeless message of grace to your family.
This parenting style mirrors God’s love, reflects His forgiveness, and displaces fear as a motivator. It provides a safe space for children to develop into functional adults with purpose, security, and inner strength.
As we embrace the grace God offers, we begin to give it—creating a solid foundation for growing morally strong and spiritually motivated children.
The Chosen
Saturday 6:30pm
Letters & Signs Shop (10016 W Freistadt Road)
Season 4 of The Chosen is a biblical drama that focuses on the life of Jesus and the challenges he faces as his popularity grows. The season follows Jesus as his enemies close in, his followers struggle to keep up, and religious leaders ally with the Romans in an attempt to threaten him. The season also explores the characters’ motivations and core emotions, and some say it takes viewers to new places and gives them a bigger sense of the world.
This group will watch an episode together and discuss what they have seen. Fellowship and snacks follow.

Leaning on Jesus
Marjorie Kreienbrink
Wednesday 9:00 am (Women) – Begins September 18
Marjorie’s Home
Marjorie’s Bible study for women begins again this fall with an LWML study called Leaning on Jesus. In a culture that promotes independence and self-empowerment, we are taught to stand on our own two feet, to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps.” What happens, then, when we trip and fall? What happens when we realize we’re weak, or weary, or lacking wisdom, direction, or strength? Let’s learn to live out (and promote) a different posture: leaning. Leaning on Jesus.
Leaning of Jesus is an eight-session Bible study that aims to teach us that what we need we receive from the Lord: forgiveness and strength for today, direction for today and tomorrow, and hope for eternity. We lean into Him and follow His lead as He calls us into our vocations and other people’s lives.
